Now officially in development for Spellcraft & Swordplay is the first sourcebook for the game. Monsters & Mayhem will include more creatures, options, and rules for play, expanding the possibilities for S&S to epic fantasy levels! In this book I intend to include: - New "elite" class paths, including Necromancer, Druid, Ranger, and Bard
- Scale Mail: the S&S Battle system--Mass combat rules that can be handled via narrative or with miniatures.
- Jousting system
- Optional Rules for doing away with %-based thief skills, converting the whole game to a "unified" 2d6 system
- More monsters
- Rules for underwater movement and combat
Now, no plan survives contact and all that, so none of this is set in stone, but the book is underway, with a draft of the battle system complete as of this writing. If there is anything else you'd like to see for Spellcraft & Swordplay, don't be afraid to speak up! If not in this book, it might make it into a future supplement. I always want to hear what customers and fans have to say. And as always, keep checking here for updates!

Development continues and is progressing well. Mass combat rules are done, new elite paths are done (except for spell descriptions), rules for 2d6-based thief skills done. Been mulling over underwater rules in my head--these will likely be guidelines a la Supplement II.

The book is progressing at a breakneck pace, now. I'm actually trudging through the mind-numbing process of translating OGL spells to S&S form (my least favorite part), but as I do so I'm coming across other bits and bobs to add in. Things like diseases, grappling and wrestling, etc.
I'm excited to dive into the water combat rules as well, and I need to compile a list of monsters and animals to work in.
This book is going to be stuffed full of pretty cool stuff, methinks.

Just an update: the manuscript should theoretically wrap tomorrow and go to Tim for proofreading and editing suggestions. Then I tinker for playtesting, wait on comments from a few friends who are doing the same, and when it's all done I'll get some artwork in there, lay it out, and upload to Lulu. Shouldn't be long, now...

Will this supplement initially (or eventually) be formatted in old-school style (i.e. digest 6x9 print)?

Unlikely, at least initially. The supplement is nearly as long as the core rules, meaning too long for a single 6x9 book, at least for saddle stitching.
I'm not going to say "never," as it's possible we may decide to release a perfect bound digest-sized book version, but the Old School Edition of S&S was a special release; our preferred format is the 8.5x11 standard size book.

This all sounds good, I to would like to see a small format of it but Im not picky when it comes to it.

Just kind of curious; what happened to this project? I don't see it on Lulu and would buy it if I had to go out and stab a leprous orc to get the money.
I love this system; I have my own ideas about hit points and the ability to cast spells (i prefer a power point/mana system) but on initial reading this game will be perfect for the group I game with.
I have the old whitebox D&D edition that I bought in 1975 and played in study hall while failing in every subject in school. I never bought Chainmail though but your game satisfies my old school urges.
Thanks for all your work with this.

Monstrous Mayhem has been on Lulu for quite some time, actually (and in two different formats--one that matches our "old school edition" and one that matches our standard or "deluxe" edition)...just check our lulu store: www.lulu.com/elflairgames
