Elf Lair Games is proud to announce the release of the Deluxe Edition of Spellcraft & Swordplay. This 176-page game incorporates all errata to date and includes revised and expanded material, including new Elite Paths, unarmed combat, naval combat, disease, new spells, and more. It is our intent that this will be the final version of S&S to hit the market, barring any true second edition years down the road. The great thing about PoD is the ability to fix errors as you go, but you can only take that so far. So it is our hope that this version of S&S gives our fans and those who have been undecided the game they've always thought and hoped S&S could be. As a final note, if you already own S&S AND Monstrous Mayhem, there's no need to purchase this book--it doesn't have anything that S&S and MM don't already include. The Deluxe Edition is available at our Lulu store, accessible from our web page at www.grey-elf.com/. The hardcover retails for $28.00, the 5.5x8.5 softcover for $15. An e-book edition is also available for $6.50.

At some point you mentioned that a mini-supplement might be needed to include everything from MM. What, if anything, in the Deluxe version is left out from the earlier revised rules & MM?

Yes, I'm working on a revision of MM to go with the Expanded edition. It'll be shorter and likely cheaper than the full MM--but that depends on the actual final length. It might even end up saddle-stitched.
What is NOT in the expanded edition of S&S: Underwater adventures, new monsters, the bard, mass combat, tourney rules, and rules for hedge magic and legerdemain.

So why would anyone want to buy the deluxe edition? There are some puzzling exclusions there - why leave out one of the elite paths for instance?
As it happens I placed an order yesterday but I didn't realise there were almost random exclusions from it. I thought I was buying S&S and MM integrated into one volume.

The more I think about it the more I'm quite peeved by this. There's no indication in the store that the deluxe edition is missing quite a lot of information from MM. I know it says if you have S&S and MM you don't need this, but my reaction was, sure I have all this information and don't need it again, but I'd quite like to have it all in one integrated volume so I don't have to flip back and forth between the two and I'm prepared to pay for that.
I think you need to change your disclaimer from "you do not need this if you have S&S and MM" to "this is useless to you if you have S&S and MM".
I love your game though!

We have never made any bones about the fact that the final S&S would not include all of the material from Monstrous Mayhem--we've been very up front about that whenever the topic has arisen. Please note our news announcement here: elflairgames.blogspot.com/2009/05/on-and-on.htmlThe things that weren't included aren't remotely required for play. They are all expressly optional additions, and we didn't feel the need to overcomplicate the game with a bunch of optional additions. The things that ARE incorporated are those things we felt should've been in the core book from day one. I'm sorry you weren't pleased, though.

it seems like you guys are catching a lot of flack on your own site recently. I just wanted to say I'm pretty excited about this. I need a player's copy to go with my box set, and I've been putting it off in anticipation of this. I love SW&SP. Thanks for the hard work.

It's just those two guys, bluskreem. We can't worry about it all that much--it's not possible to please everyone. We just have to do the best we can. Thanks for the support!
