Jason, maybe I missed it but I'm curious what game mechanic you are planning on using for 12 Parsecs. I'm hoping that you're simply taking S&S and space-a-fying it, but it could be that you imagine an entirely new game system. My thought is to take S&S and simply tweak things: * Change names of armor types to scifi-based armor. * Change names of weapons to lasers and blasters. * Change spell names to psionic-type FX. * Change monster names to aliens. Bam! You've got a new game! (Oh, and of course you still neet to add the dogfighting rules. Then you've got a new game!) Anyway, I was wondering what you were planning and I didn't see a thread explaing this part.....

Yes, Fin, Twelve Parsecs will be powered by O.R.C.S.: the same system that drives S&S.
Rather than simply re-couching existing weapons and armor with new terms, however, there are going to be tech levels (nothing heavily detailed, just Archaic and Tech). So you'll have a differentiation between swords and leather, and vibro-blades and reflective body suits.
The Psionics system works the same as S&S magic (Ability Checks against immediate and delayed target numbers) but the power lists, and how you gain powers will be different.
I'm also including "mook" rules based on the Chainmail with OD&D writeup I did a few weeks back (essentially, the "Troop type" system is adapted for mooks).
12p will also NOT be OGC. We are re-wording all of the Abilities and terminology so that we won't have to use the OGL (and be limited by its restrictions) to produce the game. Still, it should be exceptionally easy to anyone with a modicum of common sense how to convert between 12p and S&S. The games will be very compatible, even with different terminology.

Yes, you should be able to pretty easily convert the Mystic from 12p for use as a psionic character class in S&S.

Ah, but then the next logical step would be to re-word all of the Abilities and terminology of S&S to make it more compaitible with 12p and also non OGC in nature. Only then will you totally be free of "the man". ;D

Heh. I need to finish writing it, first, and real life has not allowed me to do this. What time I have for writing these days is dedicated to my novels, which is where my dream focus lies. The biggest setback for me right now is school. I need to focus on the finish line for that. If you guys really want to help, buy up some merchandise and more copies of S&S (and spread the word--get as many other people to buy S&S as possible) so I can get cash in the bank to publish 12p like it deserves!
